Frequently Asked Questions
Curious about home care? We thought that might happen. Here are some of the questions we have come across. Have a look and if your question isn’t answered, please give us a call. We are more than happy to assist you.
Upendo Home Care has a strong commitment to the communities in which we work and live. We maintain consistency by having the same caregiver work with the same client. We feel this is the best way for a trusting relationship to develop.
Do I really need home care?
The fastest way to tell if you or a loved one needs home health care is to answer a few questions. Do you or a loved one have trouble doing things around the house? Are you or a loved one recovering from a recent hospital visit and are not 100% yet? Is a loved one bed ridden and requires supervision and assistance? Is a loved one in need of help around the house and your schedule doesn’t allow you to be there as often as you’d like?
These are just some of the examples of scenarios where home care could be of use. If you noticed any of these reflect or are a variation of your situation, please contact us.
Why can’t I hire someone privately to help out and keep an eye on my loved one?
This may seem like a cost effective idea, but there are pitfalls and risks and ultimately cutting cost or corners could catch up with you. Most importantly, you don’t want someone who isn’t qualified roaming around your home. This can prove disastrous in the event of an emergency and they do not have the appropriate training.
Whether taking care of a senior, someone with a disability or someone who is on the mend, a trained professional home care worker can ensure you or your loved one are safe and taken care of.
Do you only deal with seniors?
No. This is a common misconception with home health care. It may be true that seniors are more likely to require home care but there are a number of scenarios where home health care could be useful to other age groups. A couple of examples are: new mothers, people recovering from a recent injury and those with disabilities. If you think you may need home care but aren’t sure, we encourage you to contact us for more information. We would be glad to assist you.
Do you provide services for those in nursing homes or other care facilities?
Yes, of course. We are absolutely ready to assist those who may live or be staying in health care facilities. Companionship, elder or palliative care are just some of the care styles we can provide. Please contact us and let us know your situation.
What makes your caregivers different?
All our caregivers are bonded and insured as our employees. Our employees are all covered ensuring clients will not be held financially responsible for a work injury in their homes. We have a thorough screening program including employment history, criminal record and vulnerable sector screening, plus current CPR and First Aid certificates. We recruit qualified caregivers who have graduated from a recognized personal health care program. We also hire companion caregivers with excellent experience from their personal circumstances. Every new employee attends our comprehensive orientation program and ongoing training is provided, covering a wide variety of relevant topics.
Am I locked into a contract with Upendo Home Care at any time?
No! There is never any obligation to stay with Upendo Home Care after you have received the care you need. In some cases, you may not need full-time care or part-time care for very long. All we ask is to give us a reasonable notice of at least 2 weeks. We will work with you as long as you need but you should never feel as though you are locked in or stuck in any way. Please note invoicing is usually set up on a biweekly schedule, where payment is due upon receiving the invoice. We will go over this in detail prior to setting up a home care services schedule.
What is an average rate and minimum booking time?
We take pride in providing a custom experience to every client we have. Understanding every client’s needs are different, we do not have any set packages or price points. Each price will be established based on your specific needs.
The very minimum amount of time to be booked is 3 hours. This can be flexible on occasion but should always be discussed with a representative.
Is there a charge for the initial consultation?
No. The initial consultation and assessment are free and with no obligation on your part. It is meant as an opportunity to get to know each other and for us to get a full understanding of your needs.
